Notes you write to yourself on napkins. Things people tell you. Things you see on the news. Movies you watch. The girl who takes your money at a cash register. A dead fox along the road. A few drops of rain after 100 days of drought. Bugs around the light on the kitchen wall. A poem from a friend. A note to someone far away. A trip to the morgue. Buddy Holly's birthday. A name you can't forget. A bit of advice that won't quit flashing in your brain.

Funny! You line those songs up, burn a CD, load up one of those little flying saucers, drape a set of headphones over your head and march them thru your brain and what have you got? Well, maybe not CHRONICLES ONE. Maybe not THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES. Maybe not even the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. But I looked it up and the dictionary said, "... historical account of facts and events in chronological order." Except for the part about the chronological order I think that's a pretty good fit. jmt
