How I got from WOODLAKE, CALIFORNIA (1959) to FORT WORTH, TEXAS (2005) in twenty five songs... 1.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT That's me on the front with the banjo. Linda McFarland is playing the uke. That picture is from the 1961 Woodlake High School yearbook. I was the only boy in my class that sang and played anything so I was voted most talented by my classmates. There was no race. That election did surprise me on another front though. Keren Freidman asked me to help her count the votes so I knew something the rest of my life that no one else knew. Well, Keren knew. Bobby Rogers was voted most handsome. I was next. I don't remember if I got three votes or ten votes. It didn't matter. Handsome was important! It was. At that point, John had been the handsome one in our family. But Bonnie Crumminaker had written in my yearbook that I was a handsome person. It didn't matter to me that Bonnie was the girl whose joints had never calsified like they were supposed to and everyone joked about how clumsy she was. Then, my junior year at Magic Valley Academy, this college girl, Charlotte Avery, and I were sitting on the steps in the gym one night and she said, "You have a square jaw. You are going to be handsome someday." Well, it's been forty five years and Bobby Rogers died of heart failure since our reunion in 2004. So, now you know what that makes me! jmt .......
